Town's automatic promotion hopes were dealt a big blow by a 2-0 defeat at Wolves. The Blues were well off the pace in a first half during which Colin Cameron and Carl Cort put the home side two goals in front. Town improved after the break but created few chances.

Town went level on points with second placed Wigan after defeating Derby County 3-2 at Portman Road. Marcus Tudgay put the Rams ahead as they started the stronger, but Town hit back through Jim Magilton, Darren Bent and Tommy Miller, before Inigo Idiakez gave home fans a nervous last few minutes.

The Blues drew 0-0 for the first time of the season, against Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium. A draw was probably the right result from a scrappy game, although the Gills hit the bar late on.

Both Town and Reading scored in injury time of an entertaining game to draw 1-1. The Blues thought the had snatched the three points via Darren Bent's goal but Ivar Ingimarsson's later effort gave the Royals a share of the spoils.

Town's 17-match home unbeaten run stretching back to April ended as West Ham went away from Portman Road with a 2-0 win. Keeper Kelvin Davis gifted the first in the opening minute, the second goal coming from Matthew Etherington in the final minute of normal time.

Town's reserves lost to an experienced Crystal Palace side 1-0 at Selhurst Park on Tuesday night. Sandor Torghelle scored the goal for the Eagles, who included Town loan target Shaun Derry in their starting line-up.
